Towards the end of last month (March), the first ever guide to Chinese investment, produced by the Chinese government was published; and focused primarily on the UK market.
Under the guide, which was produced under the aegis of the National Development and Reform Commission – who broadly set the course for the Chinese economy and overseas investment – Chinese businesses looking to invest overseas were provided the basics of investing in the UK.
Included within the basics was the suggestion that Chinese businesses may wish to invest within the manufacturing, infrastructure and digital sectors within the UK; as well as within the professional services.
The guide follows two years of collaboration between the British Embassy in Beijing and the Chinese government; whilst it also follows a five year plan – which was outlined two years ago – and emphasises to Chinese businesses looking to invest overseas the importance of quality over quantity.
Whilst the latest guide outlines the basics of Chinese investment into the UK, for those Chinese nationals who are looking at applying for a business visa within the UK, a business representation visa, or who are looking at company transfers, the immigration solicitors at Howe+Co can assist.
