UK Immigration Policy Criticised

One of the UK’s leading entrepreneurs has again criticised the UK’s immigration policy, describing it as “sheer madness”.

Speaking in an interview last week, the entrepreneur criticised the UK’s immigration policy, stating that it is “sheer madness” that the UK trains a large number of engineers within its universities; but doesn’t enable them to stay in the country, because they are here on student visas.

According to the entrepreneur “nearly ninety-percent of our researchers at British universities in engineering and science come from overseas” yet due to our immigration policy, other countries are benefitting from an influx of new engineers, not the UK.

The comments from the entrepreneur came as the Prime Minister announced that he was confident that the UK could still reach the target of cutting immigration to below 100,000 per year.

The target was set when the government came into power in 2010; and has resulted in the closure of the Tier 1 (General) visa stream, closure of the Tier 1 (Post Study Work) visa stream, and a cap of 20,700 on the number of Tier 2 (General) skilled worker visas issued.
