Van Drivers No More Likely to be Involved in Accidents

According to recent figures, in excess of half of all road users have the impression that van drivers take less care on UK roads; with 57 percent suggesting that van drivers deserve the reputation of bad drivers.

The figures are based on a recent survey of over 1,000 road users, in which many stated that they feel van drivers are more careless behind the wheel compared to car drivers.

However, an analysis of official figures has revealed that van drivers are actually less likely to be involved in a road traffic accident, compared to car drivers.

According to the analysis of the official figures, van drivers have a one in 247 chance of being involved in an accident; whilst for car drivers there is a one in 146 chance of being involved in such an accident.

The analysis has also revealed that bus and coach drivers have the highest chance of being involved in a road traffic accident, with the accident rate for such drivers being one in 26; whilst heavy-good vehicle drivers have a one in 68 chance of being involved in such an accident.
