Things to keep in mind when traveling with your eVisa
E-Visa 🛂
If you have not yet created your e-Visa account, please apply to view your e-Visa account by going to the link below . You may need a mobile phone, mobile number and email address to view your account. Once everything is complete, you can check your e-Visa.
The UK is transitioning from the traditional Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) card to an e-visa system, which was issued in 2008 under European Union directives. It was decided to remove the card after Brexit, assuming it would no longer be needed.
Having identified some problems with border control, such as the fact that the border between Northern Ireland and Ireland remains open at all times, plans were worked out to introduce modern technology, such as biometric reading, for effective border control.
Imagine if you could be automatically authenticated upon landing at the airport, without having to stand in long lines, simply by showing your face or fingerprint on a scanner and presenting your chipped passport, and then being allowed to leave, wouldn’t that be amazing?
While some people find it extremely effective and simple, many find it challenging and confusing, resulting in many people having difficulty doing this process themselves due to a lack of technical knowledge.
If you are residing in the UK, you can contact the Gurkha Peace Foundation or other organizations that provide this service free of charge for an eVisa.
If you have a biometric card and do not have access to your eVisa account, you must register for your eVisa account before 31/12/2024.
Step 1: Set up your online account to start the process, Register to Access your Evisa
Step 2: Download the ‘UK Immigration: ID Check’ app. It is better not to use old, junk or randomly purchased mobile phones. Do not change your emails and mobile numbers as much as possible. If you are going to give your old phone to someone, then give it only after removing that mobile from the device list in your email settings so that no one can easily hack your account.
Step 3: Verify your identity using the ios Store or the Android Store. If your biometric details are not with the Home Office or the chip on your biometric card is not working, this process cannot be completed; in this case, please contact the Home Office. Home Office Chat
Step 4: Answer the security questions and remember them. For security, you will be asked some questions, or you can choose your own, such as a place that reminds you of you or your mother’s name, etc. Do not include details that you cannot remember. You may need the answers to these questions at any time.
Step 5: Wait for Home Office verification. The Home Office will then check your details and send you an email letting you know that you can check your e-Visa account.
Step 6: Access and manage your eVisa Evisa Check
Please do not apply more than once.
British citizens or British passport holders do not need to go through this process.
Even after registering for an e-visa, please keep your expired BRP card with you until further notice.
If you have changed details such as your name, phone number, email address or passport, be sure to update your account accordingly as soon as possible.
If your passport (other than a British passport) has been renewed or you are travelling abroad, you must update your New Identification Documents through your eVisa account.
